Tijan Jallow, an employee at Afro Express Bureau De Change, appeared before Magistrate Anna O. Mendy at the Brikama Magistrates Court on Tuesday, facing charges of stealing by a clerk or servant, an offence he pleaded not guilty to.

The indictment stated that, in December 2024, Jallow stole a sum of D1,975.84 from Afro Express Bureau De Change, where he was employed, in Brikama, Kombo Central. He denied the charges when they were read to him.

The Court asked the accused how he spent the money.

The accused responded that he used the money on betting.

During proceedings, DSP Buteh Sawaneh, the police prosecutor, requested an adjournment to allow time for securing a witness. The request was made without objection to the accused’s bail.

The Court finally granted him bail with four Gambian sureties with two compound documents while the case was adjoined to 13 February 2025.
