Magistrate Touray Hands Mobile Thief 1 Year Sentence

Modoulamin Jobarteh was yesterday sentenced to 1 year imprisonment for stealing a mobile phone by the Kanifibg Magistrate Courts presided over by Magistrate Thomas Touray.

According to the particulars of the offense, on January 29, 2025, at Serekunda in the Kanifing Municipal Council, Modou Lamin stole a mobile phone mark Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime valued at D4,000.00 from one Ebrima Jallow.

Cadel ASP Karamba Drammeh who announced his appearance for the Inspector General of Police (IGP) in narrating the facts, stated that Modoulamin was seen by one Samba Demon at around 17:00 hours pickpocketing the said phone belonging to Ebrima Jallow from the unsuspecting victim’s pocket, before running away.

Samba Demo, the prosecutor went on, to tell the victim that the accused Modoulamin had stolen his mobile phone. Around 18:00 hours of the same day, Modoulamin was seen at the Serekunda Black Market by an NDA officer named Mr. Camara, who apprehended him and escorted him to

the Serekunda Police Station where the accused was interrogated and the said mobile phone was recovered from him.

Modoulamin Jobarteh in his response pleaded guilty and accepted his wrongdoings, begging the court to forgive him as he is an orphan who resides with his grandmother.

Magistrate Touray in delivering his verdict, noted that the accused accepted all the facts narrated by the prosecution and didn’t waste the court’s time, convicted Modoulamin and sentenced him to a 1-year mandatory imprisonment, and a fine of D1,500 in default to serve 3 months in prison.
