The National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC) technical team over the weekend concluded its consultative meetings with regional Governors. At each meeting held in different regions, the technical team officially engaged the governors to identify cultural groups to represent their various regions.
Technical Team led by Siaka Fadera, Deputy Director General at the National Centre for Arts and Culture is mandated to coordinate the cultural component of the highly anticipated 60th Independence Anniversary of The Gambia (Diamond Jubilee) celebration to visit all Regional Governors in the country to discuss issue of regional cultural representative for the anniversary.
NCAC seeks to put cultural performance at the center of the Diamond Jubilee Celebration coming up on 18th February 2025, the cultural performances from all the regions across The Gambia will stimulate the cultural revival, fostering national reconciliation and stimulating a cohesive Gambia society.
Addressing the Governors in their offices, Siaka Fadera, disclosed the theme for the Gambia 60th Independence Anniversary – Marching in Solidary for Self-Reliance and National Development while emphasizing the importance of the forthcoming event and identifying of cultural groups for the celebration.
Governors at their various levels welcomed the technical team to their regions and appreciated their coming which was meant for a good reason, thus they used the opportunity to exposed different cultural groups in their areas to the technical team.
More so, they pointed out that the regional areas have lots of rich and diverse cultural groups with diverse culture.
In addition to that, they outlined some potential cultural heritage and tourism facilities available in their regions and want more attention to be given to them, thus they have an abundance of things to showcase.
At each meeting, Ms. Matty Jobe, Creative and Performing Arts Officer, and Sanna B Jarjou, ICH National Focal Point and Head of Department for Literature, Performing and Fine Arts gave the vote of thanks and appreciated the governors for the warm welcome accorded them while looking forward for their cultural representations.
