Future Generation Senior Secondary School emerges winner of Funneh board game competition

In a well-contested educational game, the Future Generation Senior Secondary School has emerged winner of the Funneh Board Game Competition organized by the Girls’ Pride Gambia.

The Funneh board game competition marked the 0e9+nd of project evaluation for the project implemented by Girls’ Pride Gambia, it is a part of its Women Empowerment project #Play2Educate and it was funded by the French Embassy in The Gambia and Senegal and coordinated by Alliance Francaise de Banjul.

This initiative aimed at educating school ambassadors and students on menstrual health and hygiene management (MHHM) and raising awareness about sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) within schools.

However, ten schools participated in this Funneh Board Game Competition namely Mindaw Senior Secondary School, Future Generation Senior Secondary School, Abuko Senior Secondary School, Tallinding Senior Secondary School, Unity Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Kombo Kerewan Senior Secondary School, Brufut Senior Secondary School, Jabang Senior Secondary School and Yundum Barrack Senior Secondary School.

The competition was in three rounds and lasted over three hours at the end of round 3 Future Generation Senior Secondary School emerged 1st, Gunjur Senior Secondary School, and Jabang Senior Secondary School emerged 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.

All participating schools received prizes and certificates while special prizes were given to the three winners.

Justine Guschlbauer, Director of Alliance Francaise De Banjul, welcomed the contestants while applauding Girls’ Pride Gambia for its steadfastness and efforts to organize the competition across the regions to the final step held at the Alliance Francaise.

Mr Landing Sonko, Principal Education Officer Regional Education Directorate 1, Massaneh Camara Region 2 Focal Point, Musa Wally among others gave remarkable speeches before and at the end of the competition.

Solene Liangie of Alliance Francaise congratulated all the schools that participated in the final Funneh Board Game Competition for their tenacity and participation while applauding the three winners for a job well done.

The teachers all appraised the game and commended Girls’ Pride Gambia for a job well done while demanding more of such games in the future, they also appreciated the sponsor for supporting the organizer,

However, the Funneh Board Game is a fun and memorable way to address issues that are often seen as taboo, particularly topics that are not commonly discussed between parents and children, especially regarding girls’ health.
