GNOC Executive Board Meets Moroccan Embassy to Strengthen Sports Cooperation

The newly elected Executive Board of the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC), led by President Bai Dodou Jallow, on Thursday, 6th February 2025 paid a courtesy visit to the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Banjul.

With this visit, The Gambia and Morocco hoped to forge closer ties through sports diplomacy and explore potential areas of collaboration. The topics covered in the meeting included sports exchange programs, chances for Gambian coaches and athletes to get training, and the possibility of Morocco’s assistance in the form of sports equipment and infrastructure development. President Jallow emphasized the importance of bilateral sports relations and proposed collaboration in hosting international competitions and capacity-building programs. Both parties expressed commitment to deepening ties and ensuring practical steps toward implementing key initiatives.

The meeting was attended by the Moroccan Ambassador (Chargé d’Affaires) to The Gambia, Mr Ahmed Belhadj, along with GNOC 2nd Vice President Mr. Bakary K. Jammeh, Secretary General Mr. Yorro Njie, and Technical Director Rev. Mary Padro Decker, focused on strengthening sports diplomacy and exploring collaboration opportunities between the two nations.

Discussions covered key areas such as sports exchange programs, training opportunities for Gambian athletes and coaches, Morocco’s potential support in providing sports equipment, and infrastructure development. President Jallow emphasized the importance of bilateral sports relations and proposed joint efforts to host international competitions and capacity-building initiatives. Both parties expressed their commitment to enhancing sporting ties and ensuring the implementation of agreed-upon initiatives.

The meeting concluded with a shared vision to enhance sporting opportunities and foster stronger relations between the two nations.
