Edwardo Perea, a Spanish Doctor and leader of ASEDA, a Spanish Organization which consists of medical practitioners from Spain has stated that his team are presently at the Kanifing General Hospital performing an 8-day voluntary surgery campaign that will end on Tuesday the 18th of February 2025.

Dr. Edwardo in an exclusive interview with this reporter, revealed that the surgery campaign is aimed at helping patients who are suffering from Hernia, Goitre and Lipoma. Adding that Goitres is the most common disease and mostly affects women, and often times results in breathing difficulties and their swallowing abilities.

“We are all motivated by a shared passion of helping people in need of medical assistance not just in The Gambia, but in other parts of Africa,” explained Dr. Edwardo.
Omar F. Jammeh, the Public Relations Officer at the Kanifing General Hospital, maintained that his hospital is pleased with the team’s visit and assistance, because of the shared knowledge and skills transfer that staff of the hospital are getting from the campaign.

“They as doctors are working with our own doctors and are sharing ideas, this goes a long way in helping our staff as it improves our technical knowhow. They are also here with operations equipment that were lacking at the hospital,” says PRO Jammeh.
