Minister Jallow Commends DPP for Handling Caseload Swiftly & Fairly

Attorney General and Minister of Justice Dawda A. Jallow has commended the Director of Public Prosecution, AM Yusuf, for handling the unprecedented caseload swiftly and fairly.

He made the recommendation at the opening of the 2025 legal year in Banjul on Sunday, where he said DPP Yusuf, in his resilience, has made remarkable progress in the criminal justice and prosecutorial reforms.

Minister Jallow disclosed that one of the ministry’s most significant achievements has been in their restless fight against sexual and gender-based violence, ”through targeted prosecution and public awareness campaign.”.

He pointed out that the ongoing digitalization of the case management system has begun to transform how we handle cases, enhancing transparency, efficiency, and accountability.

Minister Jallow emphasized that despite the constraints the Ministry faces, his office has ensured that state prosecutors are present in all courts nationwide, pointing out that such was a testament to reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to justice delivery.

He acknowledged the challenges the Ministry faces and assured the Ministry’s steadfastness in upholding the rule of law, promoting good governance, and the protection of human rights of all citizens.

He also said that the ministry’s achievements were a testament to their dedication and resilience of the hardworking profession and support service with the ministry.

”As we reflect on the past year’s achievements and challenges, we renew our results to ensure that justice is not an abstract idea but a damageable reality for every Gambian,” Justice Minister Jallow urged.
