Sirreh Sonko, a resident of Gunjur, on Wednesday, appeared before Magistrate A. Fofana at the Brikama Magistrate Court, facing serious charges of assaulting and obstructing three police officers engaged in their official duties at Gunjur Police Station.

The allegations against Sirreh clearly stated that on January 30, 2025, she willfully obstructed Inspector Modou Lamin Jabang, Corporal Bintou Colley, and Corporal Manyima Jatta while performing their lawful duties.

In addition, she is accused of assaulting Corporal Bintou Colley by biting her thumb, resulting in actual bodily harm. Furthermore, Sirreh allegedly tore Corporal Colley’s clothes and damaged her spectacles.

When the charges were presented to her in a language she understood, Sirreh defiantly pleaded not guilty to all counts. Prosecuting Inspector Fadera, recognizing the gravity of the incident, did not oppose her bail but sought an adjournment to secure his witnesses.

Trial Magistrate Fofana ruled in favor of an adjournment, scheduling the next hearing for March 11, 2025. He granted bail to Sirreh in the sum of D10,000, and she should provide one Gambian surety who will deposit his or her ID card with the Registrar of the Court and attend every adjourned date. Failure by the guarantor to appear at any hearing will result in the immediate revocation of Sirreh’s bail.
