The Gambia Police Force has confirmed the recovery of D989,000 from the armed robbers who attacked and broke into El-Hella Shop, owned by a Mauritanian businessman in Banjul last week.

It was reported that the armed robbers, Ousainou Jobarteh and Abdoulie Jallow, who are currently in police custody, stole D1,250,000 and 1,650,000 CFA from the businessman during the robbery.

“Police have recovered D599,000 from Ousainou and Abdoulie (combined), and D390,000 from the driver who engaged to escape the vehicle used in the operation from Banjul. The suspects declined to disclose their respective shares of the stolen money,” Assistant Inspector General (AIG) and Crime Management Coordinator (CMC) Demba Sowe revealed during a press conference at the Police Anti-Crime Unit headquarters in Banjulinding on Wednesday.

AIG Sowe further emphasized that while criminals are continuously planning their illegal activities, the police are dedicated to protecting the citizens and residents of The Gambia, especially investors who are frequently targeted in robbery incidents. “The police will do everything in its power to combat crime and ensure that all criminals are brought to justice,” he added.

He also reassured the public, particularly investors, that there is no safe haven for criminals in or outside The Gambia, and encouraged them to continue their routine business activities in the country without fear for their safety.
