Drug Dealers found themselves in Court

Ebrima Jarra, an alleged drug dealer, was arraigned last Monday before Principal Magistrate Sallah M’bai at the Kanifing Magistrate Court for engaging in prohibited drug activities.

 

The charges read that on or about September 6, 2024, at Dippa Kunda in the Kanifing Municipal Council, within the jurisdiction of this honorable court, Ebrima Jarra possessed 497mg of cannabis resin, which is classified as a prohibited drug.

.

Count two read that Ebrima is charged with possession of prohibited drugs in violation of Section 35(1)(a) of the Drug Control Act 2003.

 

The particulars for Count Two clearly state that on the same date, September 6, 2024, at Dippa Kunda, Ebrima held twenty-six tablets of ecstasy without a valid license.

The accused pleaded not guilty on both counts.

 

The prosecution officer demanded an adjournment to secure essential witnesses for the next hearing but did not object to the accused’s bail.

Defense Counsel B. Boye, representing Ebrima, applied under Sections 24 and 99 of the Criminal Procedure Code for bail, and this request was granted.

 

Principal Magistrate Sallah M’bai approved the defense counsel’s application. Ebrima was granted bail in the sum of D400,000.00 with two Gambian sureties, who must present valid national identity cards or passports. Each surety is required to deposit D200,000 and provide their SIM verification numbers.

 

The case is set to continue on Thursday, March 13, 2025.

In a related case, Lamin Jarjue was also arraigned before Principal Magistrate Sallah M’bai at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court for involvement in prohibited drug activities.

 

NC Jobarteh announced his representation for the Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG), while Lamin Jarjue has no legal counsel representation.

Lamin Jarjue was charged with possession of prohibited drugs under Section 35(a) of the Drug Control Act 2014, as amended. His particulars of offense state that on or about October 9, 2024, at Bakau in the Kanifing Municipal Council, Lamin possessed 100 grams of cannabis sativa, a prohibited drug, thereby committing a serious offense.

 

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor sought an adjournment to secure vital witnesses for the upcoming hearing and did not oppose the accused’s bail.

 

Principal Magistrate Sallah M’bai granted bail to Lamin Jarjue in the sum of D100,000 with two Gambian sureties, who must also present valid national identity cards or passports with swear-in affidavits of means.

 

The hearing of the prosecution’s case is adjourned to March 12, 2025.
