The Brikama Magistrates’ Court presided over by magistrate I.O Njie on Thursday issued an order for murder suspect Salifu Keita to be remanded in custody at Mile II following his plea of not guilty to the charges of murder.
Salifu Keita is alleged to have unlawfully caused the death of one Abdoulie Badjie of Tunjina village on 16 February, 2025, at Kuloro village in the Western Region.
Sgt 4422 M.J. Sallah, representing the Inspector General of Police made an application for the transfer of the case to the Special Criminal Division of the high court as the magistrates’ court lacks the jurisdiction to entertain cases that attract imprisonment for life.
The prosecution’s application was granted and the case was consequently transferred to the High Court. Keita shall be remanded, pending his appearance at the Special Criminal Division of the High Court.
