Africell, a leading GSM operator in The Gambia, has successfully launched the highly anticipated second edition of its volleyball tournament on Thursday, February 20, 2025. Partnering with the Gambia Volleyball Federation, Africell hosted this notable event at the KMC-Africell Park at Traffic Light.
Bai Dodou Jallow, the president of both The Gambia Volleyball Federation and The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC), in his remarks, commended Africell’s commitment to the sport and urged the youth to actively engage in supporting athletics.
“Africell’s support is meats to take volleyball to new heights. This platform is a vital opportunity for clubs to gain financial support and increase their playtime,” he noted.
Musa Ceesay, the senior manager of Africell, emphasized the company’s dedication to impactful initiatives that enhance awareness and inspire future athletes.
“The second edition of any tournament is expected to be more competitive and challenging. We are prepared for an intense display of skill and teamwork in volleyball,” he said.
The tournament features fierce competition in both male and female categories. In the female category, the Gambia Police Force triumphed over Waa Banjul, winning decisively with a score of 3 sets to 0. Meanwhile, in the male category, the YMCA faced off against Olymp Africa, also achieving a commanding victory with a 3-0 set score.
According to the organiser the tournament is not meant to showcase the talent of Gambian athletes but also reinforces Africell’s commitment to elevating the sport of volleyball in The Gambia. The impact of this event will be felt across the community, fostering greater participation and enthusiasm for athletics.
