President Adama Barrow has reiterated his government’s “unwavering” commitment to ensuring that every Gambian child gets access to quality education, stating that his administration will continue to prioritize education as a core pillar of national development.

Speaking on Wednesday at the inauguration of the Maladah Upper Basic and Senior Secondary School in Kunkujang Jaataya, Kombo North, as part of the Gambia’s 60th independence anniversary celebrations, President Barrow emphasized that education is key to unlocking the nation’s future.

“My government is dedicated to delivering quality education for every Gambian child. Education is the foundation of our growth, and we are committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed,” President Barrow said.

The President underlined that the Maladah school, built with support from the MRC-Holland Foundation, is a testament to his government’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities in the country. He called it “a loud statement” of his administration’s goal to offer accessible and high-quality education across all regions.

The Gambian leader stressed the importance of continued collaboration with local communities, development partners, and the private sector in the collective effort to improve the educational landscape of The Gambia. He commended the MRC-Holland Foundation and other partners for their contributions, acknowledging that these partnerships have helped shape the nation’s educational infrastructure.

“We cannot achieve this alone. It takes a village to raise a child and together, we can provide the best opportunities for our future leaders,” he added.

The President also referenced the ongoing Education Sector Reform Programme, which focuses on improving teacher welfare, curriculum updates, and infrastructural development in schools. He explained that the government plans to enhance the quality of education through these reforms, ensuring that Gambian children are equipped with the skills needed for a modern workforce.

“This school, alongside other educational projects across the country, is proof of our commitment to creating an inclusive and equitable education system,” President Barrow stated.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by government officials, community leaders, and education stakeholders, with many praising the efforts made to bring quality education to under-served areas.

President Barrow reaffirmed his administration’s promise to continue prioritizing education, calling it the key to unlocking a brighter and more prosperous future for The Gambia.
