Children from various administrative regions of The Gambia engaged directly with key government officials in an intergenerational dialogue as part of events, marking International Children’s Day of Broadcasting.

Held on March 2, 2025, at the Ministry of Information, Media, and Broadcasting Services’ conference hall, the session featured Hon. Fatou Kinteh, Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Welfare, and Hon. Ismailia Ceesay, Minister of Information, Media, and Broadcasting Services.

The dialogue allowed the children to voice their concerns and to seek clarifications on issues, affecting their lives. Questions ranged from specific policies within the ministers’ portfolios to broader governmental strategies impacting youth and children’s welfare.

Minister Kinteh reaffirmed the government’s dedication to safeguarding children’s rights, stating, “Our commitment to your welfare is unwavering. We are continually working to create environments, where every child can thrive.”

Minister Ceesay emphasized the importance of such engagements, noting, “Your voices are vital in shaping the future of our nation. Platforms like these ensure that policies reflect the true needs of our younger generation.”

Participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity to interact directly with policymakers. A student from Bakau Upper Basic School acknowledged, “It’s empowering to know that our opinions matter and that our leaders are listening to us.”
