GPF Summons Officers Over ‘Grossly Unprofessional Conduct’

The Gambia Police Force (GPF) summoned officers for investigation over what it referred to as ‘grossly unprofessional’ conduct by its officer during the cause of their work, stating that the institution remains committed to respecting human rights in its strive to maintain professionalism within the force.

At the weekend, two police officers were caught on camera that were aggressively and bitterly directing insolent towards an elderly man, who was in return, telling the officers that they are instead referring to their own fathers not him [elder] as they [officers] continued to insult.

The Gambia Police Force reported that it is aware of an incident caught on camera showing officers engaging in “grossly unprofessional conduct”, adding that the institution condemns any such actions by its officers.

“Those involved have been instructed to report to the Human Rights and Professional Standards Unit for investigation. The GPF strongly condemns such misconduct and remains committed to professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights,” the GPF said in a statement released after the incident.

The Gambia Police Force sends appreciation to the public vigilance and partnership in ensuring a responsible and accountable police force is maintained.
