Man in Possession of Unlicensed Firearm Remanded at Mile II

Rickey Usumbura, who appeared before Magistrate A.Fofana  of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, March 5th, 2025, has been remanded at Mile II prison for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm, in violation of Section 8(2)(a) of the Arms and Ammunition Act, Cap 21:01, Volume 4, Laws of The Gambia, 2009.

The charge states that in January 2025, at Siffoe Village, West Coast Region, Usumbura was found with a Taurus pistol, serial number PT 111G2 9mm, and eighty-two (82) rounds of ammunition without a license.

Usumbura pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him in court, presided over by Magistrate A. Fofana.

Police prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent Buteh Sawaneh, representing the Inspector General of Police (IGP), explained that on January 14th, 2025, while the Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG) was conducting a routine patrol at Siffoe, they arrested Rashid, the suspect’s son, with suspected cannabis. They then searched the house and discovered the unlicensed pistol, two magazines, and eighty-two live rounds of ammunition. The items were seized and brought to Siffoe Police Station for investigation. The prosecutor submitted the pistol, ammunition, magazines, and a ballistic examination report from the Gambia Armed Forces as exhibits.

The case was adjourned to March 6th, 2025.
