“Nfangol La Nafa,” a charitable non-governmental organization, donated food commodities to thirty-three villages in the North Bank Region.
This organization was established in 2022 with the aim to assist poor Gambians. The items included the Holy Quran, 10 bags of rice, 30 bags of sugar, 5-liter oil gallon, tea bags, and milk cartons.
Speaking at the presentation held in Badibou Salikene, Sulayman Saho, lawmaker of Badibou Central who also serves as the President of the organization, said the organization has been conducting a series of presentations geared towards helping its electorate. “This is Ramadan, and everyone can attest that the prices of food commodities are very expensive.”
He disclosed that the presentations are not only limited to villages in urban areas but also in the kombos. “The amount of funds we budgeted for this presentation amounts to one hundred and thirty thousand dalasi, and we are a non-profit institution,” he added.
“We have been conducting presentations previously, but this time, the donation involves a lot of funds.”
“This is to recognize the efforts of our electorates because they contribute immensely during campaigns by mobilizing people to vote for the right candidate. In Ramadan, it is good to give out charity, especially to people with poor backgrounds. The issue of hardship related to food commodities is a big challenge, and everyone is facing the same consequences,” he explained.
NAM Ceesay noted that last month, the organization donated school materials to Banni, Doobo, and Salikenne schools.
Saho assured the organization’s commitment to making an impact on the lives of needy people, especially during the Ramadan period. He thanked all the donors in the diaspora for their continuous support for the development of the organization.
Lamin Ndow, Campaign Manager, reiterated that the organization is established to help the poor with a low background. Each of the thirty-three villages was represented to ensure transparency and accountability.
Ndow said the donation came through President Saho. “Due to his unwavering commitment towards the development of the organization, I can tell you that a lot has been achieved in the past years. Only an honest leader can lead an organization without fear or favor,” he contended.
“The donation is extended to Alkalos and the council of elders in each village. The significance of the donation cannot be overemphasized. This plays a huge role in impacting the lives of the people, especially in this difficult moment. We want to assure the donors that the gifts have been given out successfully, and we hope for more collaboration in the future,” he remarked.
