By: Nicholas Bass

Ousainou Bojang, currently standing trial for the 2023 murder of two police officers and the wounding of another near Sukuta Traffic Lights, strongly denied claims that he communicated with his Senegalese relatives before fleeing to Senegal.

During cross-examination at the Banjul High Court on Monday, Bojang refuted allegations that he made a phone call to his sister, Amie Bojang, before his departure to Julolom, Senegal. Under questioning by the Director of Public Prosecution, AM Yusuf, Bojang confirmed he had called his sister on a simple cell phone on September 13, 2023, but stated her smartphone was off at the time. He also recalled speaking to police officer Ousman Manneh, who was stationed at the Senegambia Police Station, on the same day.

When asked about communication with his girlfriend, Claude De Francis, on September 12, 2023, Bojang admitted that his girlfriend had ignored his text messages by not replying to his text messages.

Bojang also mentioned reading a press release about the shooting, provided to him by his lawyer during his detention at the Mile Two Remand Wing, and noted that it was the first time he had met his legal counsel.

Meanwhile, his sister, Amie Bojang, is facing trial for accessory to murder charges related to the same case.
