Alieu Fatty, a former employee of Eco Bank, was convicted on Tuesday for stealing by clerk and servant and forgery by Magistrate Mben Faal of the Kanifing Magistrate Court.
Fatty pleaded guilty to both charges and was sentenced to pay a fine of D25,000 for the first count of theft, with a default to serve two years imprisonment. For the second charge of forgery, he was ordered to pay D10,000, with a default sentence of one year. Additionally, Fatty was ordered to compensate the complainant, Eco Bank, in the amount of D463,000. Failure to pay the compensation will result in a two-year imprisonment sentence.
The charges against Fatty state, on the first count, it was stated that in 2023, while working as a teller at Eco Bank Westfield, Fatty stole D863,900 from account number 6274003424, which belonged to Eco Bank.
On the second count, Fatty forged the fingerprint of one Amadou Jaru Jallow in 2023, with the intent to defraud, in order to withdraw D863,900 from Jallow’s personal Eco Bank account, again to the benefit of Eco Bank.
Fatty admitted to both charges and was convicted accordingly.
