The Gambian passport has been recognized by Hanley Passport Index as the most powerful passport in the West African region.
Currently, the country’s passport is the 12th most powerful passport on the African continent, according to Hanley Passport Index.
The Henley Passport Index is a global ranking system that assesses passport strength based on the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa. It uses data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and is updated quarterly.
“The Gambia is the most Powerful Passport Holder in West Africa in 2025. It occupies the 12th Most Powerful Passport Holder place in Africa in 2025, sitting 66th most powerful passport holder out of 199 worldwide in 2025 with 71 free-visa destinations,” Hanley Passport Index 2025 outlined.
The report stated that the Singaporean passport has emerged as the strongest passport in the world in 2025, with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 193 out of 227 countries across the globe.
