The police confirmed that gunmen have attacked and robbed two Mauritanian shopkeepers and got away with local and foreign currencies, along with other valuables.
“The police is investigating an alleged armed robbery that occurred at a Mauritanian shop in Pekadus village, Kantora District, Upper River Region, on March 18, 2025,” GPF said in a statement on Wednesday.
The police said after a report was received at Fatoto Police Station, a joint security team visited the scene and that upon their arrival, the team met with the village Alkalo, who confirmed that an armed robbery had taken place in his village.
“According to reports, armed robbers carrying two hunting guns stormed the shop, assaulted two Mauritanian shopkeepers, ransacked the premises, and took money in local and foreign currency, along with other valuables, including a mobile phone, before fleeing on motorcycles,” the police revealed.
The police assured that it is actively investigating the alleged armed robbery and strongly urged the public to remain vigilant, encouraging anyone with information that may assist in the investigation to report to the nearest police station.
