The Confederation of Gambian Industries (CGI) has taken a major step toward strengthening the country’s manufacturing sector by seeking support from the United Nations.

In a high-level meeting on March 17, 2025, CGI officials engaged with the UN Resident Coordinator in The Gambia Mr. Karl Frédérick Paul, at the UN House in Cape Point.

CGI President Farimang Saho emphasized the need for funding and technical assistance to enable CGI to become fully operational and meet the expectations of its members.

He described the support as crucial for The Gambia’s manufacturing industry to grow, create jobs, and tackle global economic challenges.

Mr. Paul assured CGI of his office’s commitment to linking the organization with relevant UN agencies and development partners.

He acknowledged the important role manufacturing plays in economic development and reiterated the UN’s mandate to facilitate coordination among institutions working toward national progress.

The meeting also discussed the previous assistance CGI received from development partners, which has significantly boosted its efforts to establish a strong industrial foundation in The Gambia.

With additional support, the Confederation hopes to accelerate its impact and create a more dynamic and competitive manufacturing environment.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with CGI officials expressing optimism about the UN’s willingness to collaborate. As the manufacturing sector remains a key driver of economic transformation, stakeholders are hopeful that this engagement will translate into concrete actions that benefit Gambian industries and the economy at large. The delegation included Mr. Momarr Taal.
