The Mansakonko Area Council has taken a significant step toward improving revenue collection efficiency by providing six motorcycles to its revenue collectors in an event held at the council yesterday. This initiative aims to enhance mobility, allowing collectors to reach more areas efficiently, ultimately boosting tax collection and council revenue.
Delivering the keynote address, Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Lamin L.M. Marri emphasized theimportance of these motorcycles in tackling mobility constraints faced by revenue collectors.
“These motorcycles are provided under specific conditions, and the Council expects increased revenue collection in return. Enhanced revenue generation is vital for improving the Council’s financial position and funding developmental projects,” he stated.
Deputy Governor of the Lower River Region, KebbaCamara, speaking on behalf of the Governor, commended MAC for this forward-thinking initiative. He stressed the critical role of tax collection in funding essential community projects and urged taxpayers to fulfill their obligations.
“Effective tax collection allows the Council to reinvest in the community. I commend the Chairman and Council staff for their vision and commitment,” Camara remarked.
In his address, The Masakonko Area Council (MAC) Chairman Landing B. Sanneh described the event as a significant milestone for both the Council and its stakeholders.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to accountability and progress. Last year, we faced challenges in revenue collection, and these motorcycles will empower our collectors to improve efficiency,” he noted.
Sanneh reaffirmed the Council’s dedication to implementing critical developmental projects, emphasizing that sustained revenue growth is essential for their success. He also praised the CEO, council staff, and councilors for their collective support in making this initiative a reality.
Finance Manager Mustapha Jagne acknowledged the lower revenue collection figures from the previous year and called on revenue collectors to take on their enhanced responsibilities** with diligence.
“The success of our developmental aspirations depends on efficient tax collection. With these new motorcycles, we expect a marked improvement in reaching taxpayers and increasing compliance,”Jagne stated.
