The government of The Gambia has announced the death of General Lamin Satou Bojang, the defence attaché at the Gambian embassy in Guinea Bissau.
Gen. Bojang passed away while in the country to observe Laylatul Qadr with his family.
An accomplished military officer, diplomat, and politician, late Gen. was the leader and secretary-general of the Alliance for National Reorientation and Development (ANRD) party.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad issued a statement shortly after Bojang’s demise, to express its “deep sorrow” over his passing.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Lamin Satou Bojang, also known as General Bojang, Defence Attaché at the Gambia Embassy in Guinea Bissau. This tragic event occurred on Saturday, 29th March 2025, at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH),” the ministry said.
The Ministry extended its “heartfelt” condolences to Gen, Bojang’s family and friends, acknowledging “the significant contributions he made during his service”.
Before his deployment to the Gambian embassy in Bissau, Bojang held key positions such as consul general of The Gambia in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and deputy head of mission at The Gambia Embassy in Moscow, Russia.
The ministry prayed for Allah’s mercy to be granted to the late General, beseeching that he be granted a place in Jannatul Firdaus and that his family be granted the fortitude “during this difficult time”.
General Bojang was laid to rest on March 30, 2025, at Brufut.
