2 Suicide Murders Allegedly Reported

The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has confirmed that it has received two alleged suicides, both of which occurred in the Central River Region, and an alleged murder in the New Yundum, West Coast Region.

These incidents were reported by the Gambia Police Force within 72 hours.

The first suicide incident, according to the police, involved officers from Karantaba Police Station who responded to reports of a man found dead by hanging in a bush near Sami Pachonki Village, Central River Region North. This was reported on April 4.

“The deceased has been identified as Lalo Ceesay, 50, of Sami Pachonki. Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the police reported in a statement.

In a separate incident of suspected suicide reported by the Gambia Police Force on April 6, it said the police in Bansang responded to reports of an alleged suicide in Dobong Kunda, CRR South, where a man identified as Muhammed Sanno was found hanging from a tree in the bush on Saturday evening, April 5, 2025.

The police statement added that the circumstances surrounding his death are under investigation.

On the alleged stabbing incident that reportedly happened in New Yundum,  the police confirm that the reported stabbing incident on Saturday, April 5, 2025, has resulted in the death of one individual.

“The deceased has been identified as Muhammed Trawally, 22, while the suspect, Ousman Dikko, 20, is currently in police custody. The suspect allegedly stabbed the victim with a knife, causing fatal injuries. The victim was medically confirmed dead, and the body was taken to the mortuary in Banjul for a possible postmortem examination. Investigations are ongoing, and the police will continue to inform the public as more details become available,” the police said.

The Gambia Police Force encouraged the public to support the ongoing investigations by providing any relevant information that may assist the police in all these incidents.
