Buba Drammeh, who allegedly shot and killed Buba Jammeh of Gunjur in 2019 in dispute over land, has been arrested, the Gambia Police Force (GPF) reported on Wednesday evening.
Buba Drammeh, a native of Gunjur Berending, reportedly escaped from State custody at Mile II in 2020.
The authorities said Drammeh was wanted in connection with the murder of Buba Jammeh during a 2020 land conflict between Gunjur and Berending.
The police said his arrest sent a clear message that there is no hiding place for criminals, stating that joint efforts by the Gambia and Senegalese security resulted in his apprehension in Cassamance, Senegal.
“The Senegalese Gendarmerie has officially handed over the suspect to Gambian authorities,” the police spokesperson Momodou Musa Sissawo said in a televised address on Wednesday, adding that the Serious Crime Unit of the GPF has launched probe into the circumstances, leading to Buba Drammeh’s escape from a lawful custody.
“In December 2021, the office of the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Interior received a correspondence with reference number (withheld), requesting for investigation into the escape of an alleged murder of the deceased, Buba Jammeh,” the police spokesman mentioned.
