President Adama Barrow extended congratulations to Bettlomy Colly, the elected National People’s Party (NPP) councillor for Half-Die Ward, after a decisive by-election win. Barrow praised the “absolute majority” secured by Colly as evidence of Gambians’ trust in his administration.

Barrow, also Secretary General and Party Leader of the NPP, singled out Ousman Abou Wadda, Regional Chairman for Banjul, and committee members from grassroots volunteers to party elders for their tireless campaigning. “Your dedication has delivered a result that speaks volumes about our people’s gratitude and loyalty,” he said, noting that roads, sewage and drainage projects worth billions of Dalasi are already nearing completion in the capital.

Highlighting community enrichment, the President announced that a multi-million-Dalasi rehabilitation of the Half-Die football pitch will begin in the coming weeks. “These investments are not merely brick and mortar. They are the foundation for a more prosperous, united Gambia,” he remarked.

Barrow reassured Gambians outside Banjul that his infrastructure agenda is nationwide. “Every Gambian from the most remote village to urban centres will feel our development drive,” he said, pledging tangible improvements ahead of next year’s presidential vote.

Framing the by-election as a victory for democracy, good governance and the rule of law, he called it “a harbinger of what lies ahead.” He said the NPP’s showing in Half-Die augurs well for a “landslide victory” in the 2026 election, building on its record of delivering services and opportunity.

President Barrow thanked the voters of Half-Die Ward, the people of Banjul and all Gambians for their confidence:

“Thank you, Half-Die! Thank you, Banjul! Thank you, Gambia!”
