Leader of the Citizens’ Alliance (CA), Dr. Ismaila Ceesay has attributed the oppositions’ numerous criticisms of the government to “lacking developmental foresight,” urging citizens to ignore the oppositions and rally behind President Barrow.
The CA leader was speaking in Jarra Soma at the party’s National Congress on Saturday. The gathering has witnessed a massive attendance of supporters from all regions of the country.
Dr. Ceesay stated that the oppositions would always acknowledge the “massive transformative development” achieved by the Barrow administration, but they would deliberately complain that there was corruption within the central government.
He added that the government under President Adama Barrow has shown “willingness” to curb corruption, citing that was the reason an Anti-corruption commission was established and the National Audit Office was also given due mandate to carryout independent audit investigations in all government agencies.
“Do not listen to the oppositions. They have no vision. They don’t have development foresight. Their thinking capacity is low. They are not united. People with these characters, when you give them the opportunity to govern a country, it becomes disastrous,” he charged. In The Gambia today, he says, one is either with the alliance of the government or with the opposition. “Citizens’ Alliance and other allies of the government will make sure that we are done with the oppositions before mid-day during the 2026 presidential election. I don’t have any doubt about that. Our alliance partners chose someone who has development foresight with high thinking capacity, loves the country, and is accountable to citizens. Gambians know what to do during the 2026 presidential elections.” He continues to say that if Gambians want to see the continuation of a transformative development, they will vote for NPP.
Dr. Ceesay urged Gambians to retain Barrow’s administration rather than vote for “those squatting at the door of the presidency aiming to enter, and some are even trying to scale over the windows. If you allow such people to govern this country, they will only be going to the presidency to eat without considering the plight of citizens.”
The Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, indicates further that CA has engaged in various dialogues amongst them before making any decision to ally with the ruling party. He characterized CA’s alliance with NPP as base on “national interest” that has nothing to do with personal gains.
