Karamo Njie, UDP Spokesperson for North Bank, firmly stated that he believes there will be victory for the oppositions in the upcoming 2026 presidential elections, saying that the majority of citizens will not vote for continuation of the present dispensation.
Speaking to The Voice Newspaper in an interview conducted on Sunday, Mr Njie said the oppositions were well prepared to unseat the Barrow administration, citing that “unjust leadership” and “misuse” of public funds were some of the driving factors of public discontent with the government.
He added that if the allies of the government, especially Mai Ahmed Fatty, claimed that the election was a ‘do or die’ for them, the oppositions were more ready for the battle ahead.
“Mai Fatty said the election for their coalition represents a ‘do or die’ cause. I am telling him that the oppositions are better ready for a ‘do or die’ contest. The majority of Gambians don’t want to see a continuation of this government beyond 2026,” Njie told The Voice.
He stressed that most of the people who were making so many arguments with the opposition about the extension of Barrow’s mandate were against him when the going was tough.
“These are the people who were labelling the President with all sorts of evil names, but today they are dining and winning with him. Many of these people are after their personal gains,” he charged. “They are not considering the plight of poor Gambian families. The UDP government will surely make sure the plight of Gambians are protected by investing in the most crucial areas, especially in education, health, agriculture, and the security sector,” he added.
He urged citizens to do away with divisive politics and consider the broader interests of the country by voting for and installation of a UDP government.
