Magistrate Mben Faal of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday struck out a civil case involving Sanjay Kumar Sharma (SRN Steels Ltd.Kitty) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The decision followed the filing of a notice to the court by the IGP, informing the court of his decision to withdraw the case after the Banjul Oxygen agreed to withdraw and discontinue with the court.

It could be recalled that Sanjay Kumar Sharma, a businessman and the CEO of SRN Steel Limited in Kitty was dragged to court for allegedly stealing 19 oxygen cylinders that belonged to the Banjul Oxygen Company. The cylinders were valued at D161,000. The Indian businessman, who has been a business associate of the Banjul Oxygen, has since denied the charges.

In August 2022, officials of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Gambia Police Force conducted a search and identification of oxygen cylinders at the SRN Steels factory in Kitty village, Kombo Central District after receiving complaints from Banjul Oxygen Company on missing oxygen cylinders.

During the search and identification exercise at SRN Steels factory, 121 oxygen cylinders allegedly belonging to Banjul Oxygen Company, were recovered from SRN Steels factory and thus transferred to the Brikama Police Station.
