GTHI Students Win Big at International Culinary Challenge in Morocco

Students from the Gambia Tourism and Hospitality Institute (GTHI) have emerged victorious at the second edition of the International Culinary Challenge Competition held in Morocco. The weeklong competition took place at the Mohammedia Vocational High School for Hospitality and Tourism (MVHSHT), drawing participants from several countries, including Morocco, France, Italy, Canada, Tunisia, Senegal, and The Gambia.

Representing The Gambia with excellence, GTHI students Muhammed Jarra, Rohey Jobe, Hassan Demba, and Ousman Camara showcased exceptional culinary and hospitality skills across various categories. They were accompanied by their coach and mentor, Peter Mendy, Head of the Research Department at GTHI.

The competition included diverse segments such as Kitchen, Pastry Shop, Bakery, Service, and Barista. Team Gambia impressed judges and fellow participants alike, securing the following accolades by emerging 1st position in Best Cuisine, 2nd Position in Barista Service, and Pastry, and 4th Position in Bakery.

This outstanding performance marks one of GTHI’s most significant achievements on the international stage, further cementing the institute’s reputation for excellence in hospitality and culinary education. GTHI has a proud history of competing in and winning various international events, and this latest victory adds to its growing list of accolades.

Director General of GTHI, Momodou Singhateh, and Peter Mendy expressed immense pride in their students’ accomplishments. Since the win, the students have received a wave of congratulatory messages from supporters and stakeholders in the hospitality industry.

The competition aimed to promote professionalism among hospitality students and apprentices, fostering passion, creativity, and commitment to excellence. It also offered participants a platform to express their individuality, initiative, and technical prowess while earning international recognition in the field.

This experience not only highlights GTHI’s continued dedication to practical, skills-based learning but also showcases the potential of Gambian students on a global platform.
