Three alleged robbers of the United Vegetable Oil Company Abdoulie Jallow, Ansumana Jarju and Losseni Diabate have denied three-count robbery charges.
Abdoulie and Ansumana are Gambian nationals whilst Losseni is an Ivorian national and they were arraigned on Monday before the Banjul High Court presided over by Justice Omar Cham.
According to details of count one, the trio on or about 31 December 2024, at the United Vegetable Oil Company at Saro in the Denton Bridge area, jointly agreed amongst themselves to commit a felony to wit: robbery.
The particulars of count two read that the trio on or about 31 December 2024, at the United Vegetable Oil Company at Denton Bridge area [Saro] of the city of Banjul, while allegedly armed with cutlasses and knives, allegedly robbed the United Vegetable Oil Company of D400,000, which was under the custody of security guard Sadivi Hauya.
On count three, the particulars stated that the alleged violent gang on or about 31 December 2024, at the United Vegetable Oil Company at Denton Bridge [Saro] vicinity in Banjul, allegedly rendered[immobilized] one Sadivi Hauya by tying his legs, hands and mouth.
When the charge sheet was read and interpreted to them in Wollof, they denied any wrongdoing.
The State lawyer, M. D. Mballow, invoked section 226 of the Criminal Procedure Code and applied to the court for an adjournment and the remand of the accused persons at Mile II, pending the hearing and determination of the case.
Abdoulie Jallow is being represented by lawyer Lamin J. Darboe, whilst lawyer A. Jallow represents Loseni Diabate also referred to as Alfusainey Jobarteh. Lawyer E. Sanneh represents Ansumana Jarju.
The matter was adjourned for the hearing of the testimony of the state’s first prosecution witness.
