The Brikama Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday issued an order for the remand in custody of one Amadou Sima at the State Central Prison for allegedly raping a 40-year-old woman in Kembujeh.
Amadou appeared before Principal Magistrate Anna O. Mendy on charges of rape, contrary to Section 3 (1) (a) punishable under Section 4 (1) (a) (II) of the Sexual Offences Act (2013).
He stands accused of intentionally and, under a coercive circumstance, engaging one Alimatou Jarju into a sexual act.
He denied the allegation.
Following Amadou’s denial of guilt, Deputy Superintendent Buteh Sawaneh, representing the IGP, objected to a bail for him, stating that he was involved in multiple rape cases. DSP Sawaneh added that police investigators have been trying to recover the knife allegedly used by the accused in raping the victim.
“If the accused is granted bail, he will interfere with our witnesses,” said DSP Sawaneh.
His application was granted and consequently, Principal Magistrate Mendy ordered for the remand at Mile II of Amadou.
The case resumes on 8 May 2025.
